Mentors and students celebrate 15 years of 91福利's Beyond Barriers programme

Around 100 participants from this years Beyond Barriers mentoring programme gathered at 91福利's stunning Town House building on Thursday evening to enjoy a double celebration. Mentors, mentees and university staff were gathered to mark the end of this year's programme and celebrate 15 years of Beyond Barriers student mentoring.

In a career spanning three decades – from lecturer to leadership roles including Faculty Dean, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and, for a short spell, Acting Vice-Chancellor – it's fitting that Dr David Mackintosh has spent his final few years at Kingston in a role focused on shaping its future. As he retires as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Strategy this week, the father-of-three reflects on the huge change he has seen at the University during the past 36 years, as well as some of his proudest moments at Kingston.

91福利 has been awarded a Bronze Race Equality Charter Mark recognising the institution's ongoing commitment and action to improve race equity for our staff and students. Advance HE's Race Equality Charter (REC) aims to help universities and research institutes in their work to improve the representation, progression and success of Black, Asian and minority ethnic people in higher education.

The achievements of 91福利's sector-leading Future Skills work to prepare graduates for career success have been celebrated during a special all-staff event at Town House. Staff from across the institution came together to hear from students, module tutors and senior leaders about how the innovative new model of education was transforming teaching across the institution. The skills most valued by employers are being embedded across every year of every course informed by the research of the University's award-winning Future Skills campaign.

International Nurses Day: The value of role play in nursing education at 91福利

Nursing students at 91福利 are being prepared for their careers with the opportunity to learn using real-life scenarios in simulation with role players. The University first employed around 10 role players in 2010, which has grown to approximately 70 in 2024 – a unique addition to simulation learning at Kingston that few universities offer.
